About Me
My name is Margherita and I am the owner of and teacher at When in Rome.
A proud Sardinian girl, I arrived in Ireland in 2003, working first in Dublin and later moving to Derry with my Irish husband Conor.
Together we have two sons who are both equally proud of their Irish and Italian heritage.
I have been teaching my native language since 2016 after requests from friends and family.
I enjoyed it so much that I obtained a Certificate in Teaching from University of Ulster in 2017, and I haven’t looked back since.
I love sharing my passion for my homeland, my culture and my language, and for me it is a great honour to be able to accompany my students on their voyage of discovery in Italian.
WHAT WE DO
Classes / Group Lessons
I have extensive experiences with classes of all sizes from small groups right up to classes of 18 students. My students are primarily adults with varying abilities and motivations for learning the language. I like to keep my courses flexible, and I adapt my lesson plans for each group.
Italian For Business
I have worked with a local IT company in providing their sales and services team with the building blocks needed to help them in communicating with their Italian clients. These bespoke courses can be tailored for any business or workforce.
One-to-One Lessons
I have had a number of One-to One students over the years and these courses are tailored to each student’s individual needs. These courses can take place online or in person.
Translations
I have experience in translating business proposals, real time translation for tour groups and my work can be seen and heard at the recently opened Peacemakers Museum at the Gasyard Centre in Derry.
The Italian Kitchen
When in Rome are also proud to present “The Italian Kitchen” in Derry.
This is an occasional series of unique Italian classes mixed with a cooking demonstration of your favourite Italian dishes.
In previous demonstrations, students have learned how to prepare a Sourdough Pizza, Lasagna and Tiramisù.
As well as learning about the recipe, the origins of the dish and its regional importance, participants also get to take a sample to enjoy at home.
